The short version

This is a personal blog. I don’t want your data. I don’t use cookies (but GitHub might use them without me knowing or realizing it, as that’s where I host this site), analytics, ad trackers, or comment systems, and I don’t collect, sell, or share information about visitors. The only personal information I ever have is what you choose to send me — and even then, I only use it to reply to you.

Who runs this site

This site is madcodger.com, a personal blog about off-grid living, growing, building, and related topics. It exists to share what I’m doing and thinking — not to make money from you or from information about you.

What I collect

Nothing, automatically. The site has no user accounts, no comment forms, no newsletter, no analytics, and it sets no cookies of its own (though GitHub, which hosts the site, might).

If you contact me (by email or through the contact page), I’ll receive whatever you send — typically your email address and your message. I use that only to respond to you. I don’t add you to any list unless you check that newsletter box, and I don’t share your information or sell it. If you’d like me to delete a message you’ve sent, just ask.

What the hosting service may collect

This site is hosted on GitHub Pages, a service of GitHub, Inc. Like most web hosts, GitHub may log basic technical information about visits (such as IP addresses) for security and operational purposes. I don’t have access to detailed visitor logs and couldn’t identify you from them if I did. GitHub’s own practices are described in the GitHub Privacy Statement.

Third-party content and links

A few things on this site load from, or link to, other companies’ servers, and I can’t control what those companies do:

• The contact form is processed by Formspree, which forwards your message to me; Formspree handles the submission under its own privacy policy.
• Pages use fonts served by Google Fonts, which means your browser requests those files from Google’s servers when a page loads.
• Some posts may embed charts or documents from services like Google Sheets.
• Posts often link to other websites (products, tools, articles).

When your browser loads embedded content or you follow a link, the other website may collect data about you under its own privacy policy, just as if you had visited it directly. Their policies, not this one, govern what they do.

Children

This site is not directed at children under 13, and I do not knowingly collect information from them.

Changes

If I ever change how this site handles information, I’ll update this page and the date at the top.

Questions

If you have questions about any of this, reach out through the contact page and I’ll do my best to answer.
